Prairie-Ish

Hey Ladies,
So today, I slept in as long as I could after a weekend of work. I've been wanting to spruce up my little porch area (apartment living), so I got dressed and headed to Goodwill and IKEA. I picked up a few things and a pretty hefty bill from IKEA too. lol

I wanted to try something that I see a lot of you all wear, and that was wearing my maxi dress as a skirt. I am trying to get more wear out of my closet so this was something I've definitely wanted to try for some time.

I admit, I felt a little house on the prairie-ish in this outfit. haha.....

Top: Bitten   Maxi Dress (worn as skirt): Dots   Backpack: Thrifted   Accessories: Random

hence the antique-style editing! ha!!

But nontheless I liked it.  I hope you all had a great weekend!

Next time, I'll probably try this with a tank because I did feel a bit bulky around the waist.
I hope you all had a great weekend!

I'm the "The Thrifters Anonymous Member of the Week" over at Shana's blog: ColorBlind, make sure you check it out. I love her posts she's hilarious!

  1. Sooo luv'n the picture of you. Well done! Why is it that IKEA is SUPPOSE to be a store where you can save while shopping BUT we get a HEFTY cinch SAC tab at the register. (I think there are some hidden fees haha)

I likes the "Om-Nish" look. It is "O"riginal!
(PS where do you find your Bitten clothing? My local "TarJay" no longer has it!) Fooey...

  2. I like that dress. I also love wearing maxi's as skirts. I think it works best with maxi's that have a smock waist (cinched elastic) because all you have to do is tuck in the straps and the smock waist is flattering. I did it here back in March http://fromthereztothecity.blogspot.com/2011/03/whole-lot-of-skirt.html with a maxi. I love the prices at IKEA but I HATE having to put all that mess together!! lol Kiah

Girl...I am an Ikea fan too but like you, I always do damage in there....you get a whole bunch of little cutesy things and it all adds up..lol!

  7. i shop at ross specifically for bandeau (strapless) maxis to wear as skirts, these are the easiest to use and keep a defined waist.

  8. No way I would've been able to tell that was a dress. :) I love it! A tan would look summery and beauty too.

  9. Inez, you always look so nice! Love that skirt! I wanna see what you got from Ikea. I am semi-obsessed with them. Don't feel bad I racked a hefty bill last time I went too.

  10. This is too cute! I would not have known this was a dress had you not said anything! Good Job! Ikea is a great place but my weakness for home decor is at Kirklands!!! Ugh, they get me everytime! :)

  15. Kudos for being open to trying a new thing. I had the same bulky feeling when I wore my maxi as a skirt, maybe I'll take your suggestion and wear a tank. Hey, at least you looked cute while doing it :)

  19. Haha, funny you should mention the prairie... the last time I wore a dress as a skirt, a co-worker commented that I looked very "little house on the prairie".

  22. You look great. I recently bought a skirt like that and my husband made fun of me. I am also TOO SCARED to wear a belt? Is there one preference you have where you actually love to buy them? Or what could you suggest for a starter belt ???

  26. I see you are enjoying the camera lady. That always makes taking more pictures fun. I adored Little House on the Prairie growing up. I read most of the novels if not all. Like you I am learning to remix things to get more out of my wardrobe. I usually do the maxi with a tank depending on how the top portion of the dress is designed.
