How to Go Vegan: 5 Tips to Prepare You + Guarantee Success!

This post is long overdue considering I've been vegan for almost a year now. Yes!! I'm so proud of myself for staying the course and choosing veganism. If you don't know a vegan/plant based diet eliminates animal products. This includes
meat, eggs, dairy products and other animal derived products.

A vegan diet has many health benefits including:
  • Weight loss
  • Improves kidney function and lowers blood sugar levels
  • May lower the risk of heart disease
  • Reduces pain from arthritis
  • and has been found to protect against certain cancers
  • plus many many more
Now, in no way am an expert but I definitely wanted to share a few things I found helpful in my transitioning journey.
  1. Start Small/Set a Goal. Perhaps you'd like to try being a vegan for a week or even a month. Having a clear goal will definitely keep you on track. Before I initially became vegan I was participating in the Daniel Fast, which lasted 40 days. After the fast ended, I decided to transition to a plant based diet.  Fasting for 40 days, was the goal I was set to accomplish and I planned to ensure I was prepared for the journey.
  2. Plan your meals and meal prep. Planning your meals is essential in being vegan. In order to stay on track, you have to be on the right track. Preparing and planning your meals each week  will ensure your success. Meal prep is King!
  3. Avoid processed foods + Meat Substitutes. Keeping your diet as clean and fresh as possible will allow for good habit forming! Don't drop animal products and replace them with processed foods. Stick to vegetables, whole grains, fruits and all other plant based natural foods. Your body will thank you in the long haul.

  4. Research. Dr. John McDougall has written many books concerning the vegan lifestyle. The McDougall Program: 12 Days to Dynamic Health may help you with your plan. The book can be purchased here.
  5.  Tell others what you're doing or have an accountability partner/mentor.  My coworker has been vegan for over 15 years and when I told her I was going to stick with the vegan diet she was ecstatic. She shared a plethora of resources with me to keep me on track. The information has super helpful and now I also have an accountability partner plus mentor. Don't know anyone vegan? Do a quick group search for Facebook Groups,  you'll find a ton nationwide and in your local area.
Now that you have a few tips to help you get started, head to your kitchen and rid your fridge and shelves of all meat and food containing animal byproducts.  Then head to the grocery and have some fun!
